October 19th - October 25th

"Never say no to adventures.  Always say yes, otherwise you'll lead a very dull life." - Ian Fleming

Seems like a good quote after debating for a week on if I am going to the Tokyo Marathon for the Age Group World Championship or not.

Monday:
7 AM: 10 miles w/ 500ft of vert averaging 7:40pace.  Easy loop up the hill from work over to Link Lake then back on Rock Creek trail, this is becoming my normal Monday morning easy run. Felt pretty rough the first 2-3 miles but then things loosened up and started flowing again. I was expecting that since I basically did 3 days in a row with hard efforts.

2 PM:  2.3 mile walk with Venus in 37mins.  Always good to try and walk some of the soreness out of the legs.

4:30 PM: 59mins Garage gym session with Paula- Chest and Arms

Tuesday:
11:30 AM:  13 miles w/ 750ft of vert averaging 6:55pace.  Smashed after this one... workout was:

20 min warm up

4x90 sec hill reps jog down recovery
jog 3 min
2x15 in at marathon effort with 5 min jog between each

20 min cool down

Had to wait and do it over my lunch hour due to work meetings starting at 6:30am this morning which meant in the heat. Made it feel a lot harder than it should have but all good, half if not more of FatOx will be in the heat as well. Not quite the paces that I wanted but also a hiller course than where I normally do this type of workout, it was no Davidson Mesa.

4 PM: Walk 2 miles in 35mins - Venus duties with Paula... nice neighborhood walk together.

Wednesday:
6:30 AM:  10 miles averaging 8min pace.  Easy pre-work jog on the Rock Creek trail behind work. Legs were worked this morning from yesterday, flat as hell and really had nothing today. Not surprised, yesterday was harder than I thought it would be.  I was pretty trashed the rest of the day, even fell asleep on the couch watching our show this evening before 8.

Thursday:
8:30 AM:  10 miles w/ 600ft of vert averaging 7:35pace.  Easy cruise from the house up to HWY128 then looped back home. Combo of trails and road. Did the hill strides up the bigger hill on this loop around mile 4 or so just before HWY128. Felt slow today but the pace was back to normal which surprised me, I did not look at my watch with the exception to check the HR once in a while.

Noon:  2.6 mile walk in 43mins with Venus after lunch.  Worked from home today so took her out for a bit.

2:30 PM: 1 hour lifting at VASA focusing on shoulders and back.

Friday:
6:30 AM:  11.25 miles averaging 7:10pace.  20 min warm up

40 min steady state at 50k down to marathon effort

20 min cool down

Struggle Bus Friday is what I called this run on Strava. Had issues with hitting the marathon paces today but I am going to blame that on the wind today, the HR was there just not the pace. Could also be the amount of miles I have been doing the past 3 weeks adding up on the body but who knows. Have a few more weeks of grinding before the taper.

-- Got my XC spikes in the mail yesterday. Got the Nike DragonFly 2, might have to go do some runs/workouts on the grass at the park to get used to them, I have never ran in spikes before. First impression out of the box was how the fuck am I going to run a 10K in these without getting hurt???!!! LOL... does not seem like enough shoe.  Also no idea why there are 2 different types of spikes that came with them.  Have some research to do on this and the course in Ohio.

3 PM: 1:10 weights.  Leg day over at VASA with Paula. They got a new belt squat machine, love that damn thing. Will be replacing back squats as much as I can on this machine every week.  Looks like I am trying to take a shit at the gym in this photo... HAAA!

Saturday:
7 AM:  11 miles w/ 1800ft of vert averaging 9min pace.  Easy run with the girls (Paula, Lindsey, and Veronica) over at Green Mountain in Lakewood. It was basically everyone on their own sort of run since we are all at different paces. I ran mostly with Veronica just to make sure she would be okay, I always worry about someone coming back from an injury. A much needed super chill day. 2 summits of Green in this run.

--  2 more postcards in the mail today from Donnie and Porf.  These are cool, they painted them with watercolors themselves while on a van trip in UT.  Never seen that before and need to find this set.  Can you tell which one Donnie did and which one Porf did.  HAAAA!!  FYI, not sure the board will stay on the wall before the end of the year, getting over loaded.

Sunday:
7:30 AM: 14.75 miles w/ 1300ft of vert averaging 7:50pace.  Played water boy for the Boulder Track Club today, 3rd time this year. Figured no one was signed up and I just had 2ish easy hours on the schedule so why not.. Picked up the bottles for everyone at Marshall Mesa then drove over to Dowdy Draw to set up the aid then did my own loop with Flavio (ran Cape Town Marathon with him) who meet me there to Eldo and back. After everyone came through the aid I had set up, drove back to Marshall Mesa and did another 5ish miles doing a loop of those trails. Such a fun morning.

--- Few life things to chat about.  First why don't people take accountability for their actions?  In a huge dispute over the deposit with my previous renters on the condition they left my house, this is why I am trying to sell it after fixing everything.  I never want to go through this again.  Sucks that the Colorado laws favors the renters, we will see how this plays out today on Monday 10/26 as I type this up.  I just may send it all back and walk away, going to court would not be worth a couple of grand, it would cost me so much more than that.

Second-  It is official, signed up for Toyko Marathon last night.  Going to be one of those string budget trips where I will be counting every dollar if the house has not sold by then.  At least Toyko is more affordable than Cape Town was.  Housing was 1/3 of what I paid in Cape Town and flights are a lot cheaper to.  Excited to knock of another overseas Major Marathon.

Total Weekly Numbers
Another very solid week in the books.  Surprised I got through this week getting all of this in, been a super stressful week and have not been sleeping well.  This next week will be a little bit of a down week with travel to Phoenix and the Javelina night race next weekend.  I need a weekend away, can't wait to go play in the desert some.
