"The man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 wasted 30 years of his life." - Muhammad Ali
"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.: - Thomas Edison
Came across the second quote from Thomas Edison on Friday morning as I was pondering my goals for CIM marathon in a few weeks and the half marathon that I am running tomorrow on Saturday (see below for the recap). I feel like everything is slipping away but I will keep grinding to see what happens over the next few weeks. I think Saturday's half is going to be a shit show with everything that happened this week.
Monday:
Woke up with some major GI issues all day. Basically needed to stay within reach of a toilet all day. Not sure what I ate yesterday on the drive home that caused this but what a way to ruin my birthday. Well at least I did not have to work and was able just to hang out at home all day but still felt like a wasted day. Did try to go out for brunch which of course I regretted about an hour later.
Tuesday:
3 PM: 7.7 miles averaging 7:45pace. Easy run around on the roads by work at the end of the afternoon before heading home. Super low energy run from being
sick yesterday. Turning a corner but still not quite there. At least I
did not shit my pants so there is that, came close though but made it to a bathroom in time.
Wednesday:
6:30 AM: 10.3 miles averaging 6:50pace.
Still not 100% from the food poisoning earlier in the week. Some
bathroom stops on this one. Also struggled getting the leg turn over as
well, I just feel super swollen and puffy in my legs and joints.
Anyways still better than the last 2 days for sure so at least we are
treading upwards.

--- Thanks for the post cards this week bud! There is somewhat of a running joke with this one. If you know you know.
Thursday:
9:30 AM: 9.5 miles averaging 7:30pace. Easy cruise around work between meetings this morning. Overslept this
morning so did not get it done before work like usual. Tired today,
joints still a little stiff but improving.
4 PM: 1 hour at Koda Crossfit
Warmup: jumping rope, mobility and drills
A) 9min AMRAP
*1 Box Over (24/20)
*1 C2B Pullups
***+1/rnd
B) EMOM 12
1: ME DUs in 45s
2: ME BB Curls in 45s
3: ME AbMat Situps in 45s
10 AM: 8.1 miles averaging 7:10 pace. Easy cruise from work with 4 strides in the middle of the run. Legs
felt heavy and RPE felt easy but the overall average pace was faster
than I was expecting and the HR average was a little higher than
expected too. Maybe my RPE perception needs a little bit of fine
tuning, thinking I did this run to hard looking at the data.
Saturday:
8 AM: 1 mile warmup then Turkey Trek Half Marathon in 1:19:25 - 13.1 miles w/ 600ft of vert averaging 6:05pace.
Had plans to start slow and turn it into a progression run but that went
out the window as soon as the gun went off. Went out somewhat hard but
sustainable pace to see what would happen and surprised myself. One dude stayed about
100-200 yards back for the first 3-4 miles but then by the turn around
at mile 9 I was over a mile ahead and by the finish I was over 9 minutes
ahead. Super happy with this time considering how hilly this course was (Half Marathon PR for me), think without the hills it would be about 2-3
mins faster. Makes me somewhat more excited about CIM in 2 weeks.
Sunday:
8 AM: 17.5 miles w/ 500ft of vert averaging 7min pace. Joined the Boulder Track Club yet again for their Sunday run which was
13 miles then Taylor and I added on a few extra to get to my minimum of
the day of 2 hours. Started to feel the race yesterday in my quads
about mile nine but overall this went super well considering how hard I
pushed yesterday.
Total Weekly Numbers
Can't complain about this week considering how badly it started out. Would have liked to have more miles than 67 but with taking Monday completely off it was still a good week. Little bit more of a down week this coming week as the taper starts for CIM but still should be around 60-65 miles I think with no run being over 90 mins. Also just noticed as I was looking at my yearly spreadsheet and I am at 3135 miles on the year as of this morning, is 3500 in the cards? Possible I guess.... hmmm...
Happy Thanksgiving this coming week!
