Nov Check In

Theme of the month: "When I write, I feel like an armless, legless man with a crayon in his mouth."- Kurt Vonnegut

Came across this quote and it seemed fitting for this month.   I almost missed posting this month but suddenly remembered.  Everything just seems a little bit out of sync this month for me but it is getting better everyday.

Anyways, been a good month overall getting back into training along with a trip to Maryland to run the JFK50 miler with Rebecca getting her the qualification run she needed to run the Vermont 100 next summer.  We ran the whole race together having a great day play outside finishing in 8:55.  So fun!  Also got in 2 Skimo races at Abasin this month as well.  Been a fun month for sure!

Training Update

Volume is starting to return this month to somewhat normal amount of hours per month.  I do like to see that monthly hours over 60 if possible.  Of course I track everything, including stretching, massage, ect... Yeah I am a data dork for sure.

Caught up with Rebecca, Paula, Debra, Donnie, GZ, two Denver Trail Runners group runs this month.  Got out and about a little bit more this month than last month.

Here are the total hours broken down by activity for the month.

Oct Check In

Theme of the month: Mental Toughness is excepting your reality and choosing your response.....

Came across this quote in a podcast that I was listening to and it struck a cord with me.  Very true if you think about it.  All you can really control in our world is how we react to things that happen to us.

Anyways, more of a mellow month of recovering from Run Rabbit Run and trying to get back to somewhat normal training by the end of the month to be somewhat ready for JFK50 in Nov.  Don't really plan on racing it but to enjoy the day out exploring some place new as a birthday present to myself.  Super pumped about it to be honest.  If anyone has anything that is a must do or see while there let me know but the trip will be super short so not a lot of time.

Also did crew Rebecca for her 200 mile gravel race from Fruita to Moab on Halloween weekend.  Photos down below.  That was a blast and reminded me how much I need a trip to Moab soon to do some trail running and biking out there.  Love the desert time, it seems to ground me somewhat.

Training Update

Lower month overall in the training front due to  recovering from Run Rabbit Run, getting old sucks.  This time really seemed like it took a lot longer than in years past to get over this run both physically and mentally.  I have not ran a 100 since 2019 and honestly feel like this time took almost twice as long to recover energy wise than back then, maybe I am just remembering incorrectly?

Caught up with Donnie, Porf, Rebecca, Brad, GZ, Paula, Kunlong, Jerusha, new friends crewing the Rexy 200mile gravel ride, and Denver Trail Runners group run this month where I was able to see lots of friends so it was awesome month.  I also did teach a running form clinic at the gym as well, first time I have been asked to do that.

Here are the total hours broken down by activity for the month.

Sept Check-In

Theme of the month: Got it done

Got it done this month despite all the adversity that was thrown my way in the days leading up to the race.  Did finish Run Rabbit Run 100 in 26:13 for 11th overall after a horrible first 40 miles where was around 250th place coming into mile 40 and I could not get my head straight at all. I kept trying to drop at every aid station from mile 20 to 40 but someone kept me going in one way or another.  Clyde got me moving at mile 19 at Fish Creek Falls, Tim Barr made me walk out of Long Lake with him at mile 26ish when we were both talking about dropping, Karl Meltzer got me out of Summit Lake with a guilt trip and of course my whole crew got me out of Dry Lake mile 40 where things turned around after that.  Thank you to all of you!  I never could have done this without my crew of best friends, Clyde, Rebecca, Donnie, Don, and Jerusha....  It never would have happened without them, they are family.  This run is in my top 3 most memorable races I have had due to all the adversity I was struggling with and will never be forgotten.  I can not say thank you enough guys....  The rest of the month after the run was laying on the couch sick with a massive head cold and gluttony eating for a few weeks.  Just now starting to think about training again, sort of.

Training Update

Lower month overall in the training front but as I said above got Run Rabbit Run 100 done so as you can see below, most of the month was either tapering or recovering from that run.  I listed out my A through C goals in my post last month and I did hit my B goal of sub 30 hours with a finish of 26:13 so there is that.

Caught up with Jerusha, Donnie, Dan, Bob, Brett, Frank, Dale, Rebecca, Clyde, Don, Avery, Hunter, Steve, Steph,  2 Denver Trailrunners group runs, a Crossfit competition, and 100 mile race this month where I was able to see lots of friends so it was awesome month.

Here are the total hours broken down by activity for the month.
